Studying Business Ethics and Corporate Governance with Professor 波西亚本森
波西亚本森

Before joining Principia's Business Administration Department in 2017, 波西亚本森 (C’96) served as the Finance Manager and math teacher at the Link School in Colorado. 在那之前, she worked for nine years as a financial consultant and three years as a senior technical training consultant for Lucent Technologies. As a trainer, she traveled globally, teaching clients to use telecom billing systems.

What do you love about teaching at Principia?

I love how curious and engaged the students are here. They are constantly reaching beyond the scope of the classroom to ask why concepts are important or how we would use certain methods in a practical application. Principia students are flexible and willing to try applying new concepts. I also love the way they use their understanding of divine Principle to see how being compassionate and principled in business can be extremely beneficial to a company.

What research/special projects are you working on right now?

I’m researching business sustainability—a field that will gain importance as more consumers learn how companies are treating workers and the environment. This goes beyond looking at a company’s financial bottom line to explore how the company cultivates and retains its workforce and cares for the environment, while still producing a profitable product or service. I’m also researching business ethics.

If you could give students only one piece of advice, what would it be?

Never to stop being curious! Curiosity helps us find inspiration and grow academically and spiritually.

What led you to teaching?

同理心. I realize that not every student is going to understand the subject matter right away. I can understand how students are learning and where the gaps might be. I feel that I help my students realize that even if they are not successful on the first try, they are still learning bit by bit, so they shouldn’t give up.

What work would you pursue if you weren’t a professor?

If I were not a professor, I would like to work for a think tank. I really enjoy research, especially when the goal is to help solve public policy problems. Also, if I had the means to do so, I would like be a full-time student! There are so many subjects that I would like to master. I would love to learn how to speak another language fluently and to play the piano. I would like to learn more about computer science and engineering, too.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I love to mountain bike. The bike trails are beautiful, and I love managing the speed and balance of the bike while navigating the inclines and (small) jumps of the terrain. I also love snowboarding and riding roller coasters.
